Created by Sarah Brown, Pai's Maori origins stem from her mother's New Zealand roots and from the use of natural ingredients in their products - many of which have been used by the Maoris, and other indigenous groups, to heal and protect the skin for centuries.

Sarah was first inspired to create a natural skincare range after years of suffering from urticaria - a condition that causes skin rashes and incessant itching. Doctors told her that the best treatment was to take high dose anti-histamine tablets on a daily basis.

Fed up with popping pills that just masked the problem, she decided to take matters into her own hands and started researching all the products she used, to see if  there were common ingredients triggering her attacks. What Sarah discovered shocked her:

• Many chemicals used in skincare products can irritate the skin and cause skin allergies.
• These toxins build up in the body and have been linked to infertility, hormone disruption and even cancer.
• Cosmetics companies use these chemicals because they are cheap and extend product shelf-life.

Sarah quit her job, completed a series of courses in natural skincare and got to work researching and developing a plant-based, chemical-free range. The result is Pai.
