What makes the Jo Wood brand so unique?

Jo Wood Organics makes organic beauty products sexy, luxurious and desirable, and what is especially unique is that the formulations of the products are really sophisticated. We work with a fragrance house in Grasse to develop wonderful fragrances that are then blended with all the other ingredients and actives. Currently there are 4 fragrances in the range which are available across a broad range of product categories. JWO is a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll glamour in your bathroom everyday.

What’s your ‘Can’t live without’ Jo Wood product?

This is a hard one for me as I love them all!

My current favourite products are my Tula & Langa Exfoliating Salt Scrubs which really soothe and improve skin tone and glow, Usiku Body Oil (winner in the 2008 Health & Beauty Awards I’d like to add) which just feeds the skin with goodness and my new Amka & Usiku Eau de Toilettes which are great for people who have experienced allergies from synthetic fragrances in the past.

What’s the best beauty secret you were ever told?

To always take your make-up off no matter how late it is and to use products that feed your skin with the goodness it needs.

What’s your daily beauty routine?

In the morning my motto is “protect and moisturise” so I do just this and use a great moisturiser...followed by sun cream. Then a cup of green tea and a dose of flax seed and my vitamins.

Night time is about nourishing and I cleanse my skin with Ila Spa’s cleanser and then use one of my face oils (which I am currently developing…watch this space).

What inspired you when you were creating the Jo Wood range?

My organic journey began with food and slowly progressed onto cleaning products, and eventually the products I used on my skin. I truly believe that we put on our skin is just as important as what goes into our bodies. It really is only in the last 50 years that chemicals have been used in the beauty industry and we still don’t know the long-term affects. I was given a book called The Fragrant Pharmacy and started blending my own organic oils and realised I could do this myself. I met these 2 guys in India who made these ayurvedic products and they were such an inspiration to me, showing me it was possible to make something unique. The packaging is based on my love of 1970’s Biba and the art nouveau movement and you can really see this reflected in my home too. In regards to the product fragrances I referred back to my travels and many of the exotic places I have been lucky enough to visit an. I wanted to evoke the senses through fragrance.
