Dark circles appear under our eyes for a number of reasons. In Chinese Medicine dark circles are related to the kidneys and can indicate the body is generally run down & low on energy, general toxicity in the body, a food intolerance or nutritional deficiency.

Although there are cosmetic creams and treatments that can help dark circles are always a sign to look inside so don't ignore what they are telling you about your health!

- a slice of lemon in hot water first thing in the morning kick starts your system and gives a gentle boost to liver and kidneys helping to reduce dark under eye circles

- acupuncture is a wonderful and gentle way to balance and boost kidney 'chi' or 'energy'; it will help recharge your batteries and lessen dark circles

- avoid eating too much sugary or salty foods which deplete kidney 'chi'

- eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg including vegeatble juices and green leafy veg

- drink plenty of water

- get checked out for food intolerances. Or do a little detective work what do you crave or eat an excess of...there may be a clue there

- make sure you are eating a balanced diet with plenty of nutrients. If not consider supplements - iron deficiencies are not uncommon with dark circles.

- support your adrenal glands by managing stress- take a B complex and find a way to chill out that works for you...tai chi, yoga or sitting in a quiet room alone do me a world of good
