Blackheads (or comedones) are caused by the oxidation of oil and debris caught in the skin's pores which turn black in colour.

- make sure you are using a cleanser that suits your skin. Too rich and it will clog the pores, too drying and it will stimulate sebum production. Experiment with different natural cleansers to find one that works for you.

- Blackheads have to be pre-softened with steam or hot flannels after cleansing the skin thoroughly before being removed. Use Organic Facial Cloths with your favourite cleanser.

- A natural enzyme treatment, which gently exfoliates the skin, can help remove dead cells from the skin's surface, making removal of blackheads easier.  Wear as a mask over night (check no sensitivity to the product first) and pores are visibly clearer in the morning. This also helps prevent pores getting clogged in the first place. - Don't try to extract blackheads yourself, visit a facial therapist to have them removed - the beautician will pull the skin taut so that the small, clogged pores release their contents. A regular facial can also help to keep your skin well conditioned.

- Regularly steam your face and then apply a deep cleansing clay based mask to help prevent blackheads. Always cleanse skin thoroughly morning and night and gently exfoliate skin regularly.

- Use a non pore blocking (non - comedongenic) moisturiser on areas with blackheads when hydration is needed. Oil free moisturisers are perfect or use a light cream or facial oil suitable for oily & acne prone skin.
