As early as the 1930's the leading Scandinavian herbalist and pioneer in herbal medicine, Dr Marcus Marcussen, mapped the use of herbs, based on mineral salts necessary to store oxygen and eliminate acids in and on the human body. Urtekram have combined and complemented their experience with the many years of study and work of Dr Marcussen.

Through the words of the old herbalist himself;

When Mother Nature awakens in the springtime, when the flowers, trees and plants start to come up, it is also as if human beings awaken after a long and dark winter. You feel the urge to go walking and just look at the beautiful and wild nature, to admire and enjoy the glowing colours and breathe the smell of soil. You feel like a new person. But with much more joy than ever before can you see the beauty of the plants, when you understand their great importance and value to us human beings.

Here are some exerts from Dr Marcussen's notes that Urtekram use today when developing their products;

All the aromatic herbs contain essential oils, which used externally bring life to your skin. These oils  often with a strong aroma and taste  are mainly found in the bark, leaves, roots and fruits of certain plants.

Among the herbs most used are Camomile, fennel, thyme, peppermint, sage, lime flower, elderflower, anise, caraway, valerian root and oak bark.

The plants that are especially effective on the skin are: Lime tree flower, elder flower, camomile flower, peppermint herb, walnut leaves, pansy herb, marsh cinquefoil root, sage leaves.

Dr. Marcus Marcussen made clear -

It is not behind the desk, not by theoretical considerations that herbal medicine has been discovered. It has been done by the people, and by experience and trials handed down by generations. Man has -probably like the animal in the wild - initially only by instinct discovered what agreed with him. Let us not fend ourselves off from the history of evolution And let us not arrogantly reject the experience from the past as long as we have not proved its absence of value.

Dr. Marcus Marcussen classified herbs and plants as follows:

Iron containing like anise, woodruff, walnut leaves, stinging nettle, balm, spinach, cabbage.

Chalk containing like shepherd's purse, camomile, coltsfoot, fennel, lungworth oak bark, stinging nettle, dandelion, spinach, cabbage.

Soda containing like dandelion, asparagus, roman lettuce, reddish, carrots, strawberry and its leaves, fennel, willow bark, shepherd's purse.

These are the three mineral salts  iron, chalk and soda  which are invaluable for binding oxygen and eliminating harmful acids.
