Our family had a whole meadow of madaras, known in English as cleavers: green flowering plants with tiny white blossoms and starry leaves - "sparkling leaves", as my grandmother would say - in front of the house, full of bees. The cleavers had been there when Grandmother was still small; her mother used the flowers to dye worsted wool bright red.

It was there that I, as a small child, learnt not to be scared of dark, to mow grass and drink milk fresh from the cow...just recently I found out that my friends from abroad have never drunk fresh milk...

Then at only 11 years of age, I arrived from the Riga city with my lips painted - a real lady! Grandmother told me to wash it off and to not make a fool of myself, such a child.

I cried, because at 11 years of age I didn't consider myself to be a small child, but a big girl! Grandmother understood. The next morning she poured a cup of curds' whey into the wash tub and told me to wash my face with it, to get pretty. As for my hair - she told me to wash it in birch sap, so that it would grow long and strong...

It was only recently that I realised my grandmother was right. I owe her a lot. Not only for my happy childhood in the countryside, but for all the natural beauty secrets she taught me. For the love for our country, our nature and passion for the healthy lifestyle, which lies in the core of eco-cosmetics brand MÁDARA.
